I feel I was always meant to do reflexology, I can’t remember how I ever found out it’s a thing, perhaps I always knew! You might have heard about reflexology, but have no idea what it is and how it works. If you're looking for a natural way to relax, relieve stress, or support your overall wellness, reflexology is for you.
This post should explain more about reflexology, the benefits to your body and mind, and what to expect during a session.
What Is Reflexology?
Reflexology feels like a foot massage, but it is a lot more! It is a holistic therapy, based on the principle that specific reflex points on the feet, hands, or ears correspond to different organs and systems in the body. By applying gentle pressure to these reflex points, a trained reflexologist can help the body to help itself, promoting balance and relaxation.
How Does It Work?
According to reflexology, stress, illness, or fatigue can stop your body from working at it’s optimum level; blocking energy pathways. Reflexology aims to clear these blockages and help restore balance.
I mainly work with the feet, which are viewed as a “map” of the body; with parts of the foot relating to specific parts of the body, such as the head, stomach or back.
What Are the Benefits?
As as reflexologist, I can make no claim to cure any illness. But you may seek reflexology for relief from tension and stress, no matter what you are living with. Taking time for yourself is a really important step in feeling better overall. Plus, with the ways in which reflexology can boost the body’s natural healing power, you may find many positive improvements to body and mind.
What to Expect at Your First Session
A reflexology session will normally last 45–60 minutes. After a brief consultation about your health and goals, you stay fully clothed and relax in a comfortable chair or treatment couch, while I work primarily on your feet.
You will experience gentle pressure applied to specific points, which is generally incredibly relaxing and you may fall asleep!
Afterward, normal signs that your body is adjusting, are feelings of calmness, energy or sleepiness.
It’s important to drink plenty of fluids for at least the next 24 hours, to assist the body in flushing out toxins.
Is Reflexology Right for You?
Another brilliant thing about Reflexology is that it’s safe for most people and adaptable for children, seniors, and those with chronic conditions. It’s a great option if you're looking for a natural way to support your body’s own healing abilities.
